Visual Art Makes Your Stay!

As we all bask in the last remnants of summer before September’s activities of back to work and school, the last few weeks of August tend to be a busy travel season. Travel has once again become an important aspect of people’s lives and the world’s most beautiful destinations and hotels are opening their doors to their valued guests.

One of the first things I do when traveling and checking into a hotel is to scan the lobby for artwork. My first impression when entering sets the mood for my stay and I’m always delighted when I see great impactful work on display in their public spaces. First impressions mean everything and many hotels work with Art Consultants to curate strong dynamic work in the lobby areas as well as in each room or suite to compliment their interiors.

The modern consumer is looking for more in a hospitality environment than ever before. With the rise of Air B&B, today’s traveller wants to feel more at home, and creating a personalized guest experience has become an important factor in the interior design of the hotel environment. Art does just that by individualizing the space and your stay. Consultants and designers often reach out to local artists to produce pieces that add flavour to the area by commissioning large public artworks that are showcased outside of the hotel as well as creating interior “collections” with works on canvas, paper and textiles.

As the hospitality industry is always in a state of flux, new trends are continuously emerging and making art a branding strategy for many hotels is now a predominant method. Art is more than a conversation starter, it’s a way for people to connect. Around the world, many hotels have been deemed “Art Hotels” as their focus has become experiential and usually have more of a gallery atmosphere than merely a place to stay.

Do you believe that a reason to go back to a hotel can be based on the art you’ve experienced within its space? For me, staying in a hotel goes much further than just a place to stay for the night,  I look for the impact of the displayed art on my mood, feelings, and overall atmosphere and how it enhances my overall experience.

Happy Travels!
