Easy Pictures

Dylan McArthur

January 5 - February 11, 2017
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 5 , 7-9pm

Akasha Art Projects is pleased to present Easy Pictures, a solo exhibition featuring work by Dylan McArthur. Inspired by the work of William Eggleston, John Szarkowski, and Paul Graham, McArthur is not concerned with big questions and does not attempt to provide answers through his images. Easy Pictures acknowledges that attempting to contextualize photographs is a “fool’s errand,” and instead McArthur uses his photographs to document his experiences through the act of simply seeing.

Easy Pictures is representative of Dylan’s desire to take notice of something that is deeply elusive. The space in which he photographs exhibits a fleeting consciousness propelled by a constant change through time– trapped in a visual language where the mundane is mysterious, light is revelatory, and shadow is profound.

Dylan McArthur is a native of Toronto. In 2013, he attended a Magnum Master Class on a Nikon Scholarship. Dylan recently attended the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology as part of a BFA at Ryerson University. He has exhibited across North America and his awards include the 2017 Akasha Art Projects “Best in Show Prize,” during Maximum Exposure, an annual student exhibition presented by Ryerson University’s School of Image Arts, and the Emerging Photographer Status at Flash Forward presented by Magenta Foundation.

*Easy Pictures has been extended to February 11th, 2017
